WIP - Summer in the Suburbs
WIP. Work in progress. That is me in a nutshell. But aren’t we all works in progress? I would hope so.
In this series, I am not so sure. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of someone out of the corner of my eye, or even full on, and I instantly get a mental image burned in my brain of that person. Or, maybe it is the essence of that person; it could be what I want their essence to be. Either way, it is burned in my head… A scene frozen in time; a very specific time. A scene that only needs the subject and their focus to tell the story against a neutral background… and their story is always triggering. Breaking unsaid rules. Always oblivious to their surroundings. And, most importantly, always on their phones. The thing is, they do not care. And if you were to confront them… well, don’t.
I am not sure how many pieces are going to be in this series. Right now, the count stands at two. I normally start with a sketch or two. Nothing refined but enough to get the idea started. I take a picture with my phone (a lot faster than having to scan) and bring it into Procreate on the iPad Pro. The main decision at this point is what type of brush to use to convey the story. The digital illustrations are more realistic, even if their story is not. From there, I work out the details.
